Supplements for Cold & Flu

Did you know that having an impaired immune system can influence if you catch a cold or the flu?  It does not need to be an inevitable event this season because it is not based on exposure alone.  We have several supplements that can help boost your immune system.  Below are a few supplements sold in our store and ways they can help.  Make sure to ask which option would best help you this season. 

 

Alpha-Lipoic Acid stimulates the body’s production of glutathione and aids in the absorption of coenzyme Q10 - both important antioxidants.  Because ALA is soluble in both water and fat, it can move into all parts of cells to deactivate free radicals.

 

Beta Glucan is one of nature’s most powerful immune ally.  It boosts the immune system, supports healthy aging and helps the whole body function.

 

Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant that also has unique antiviral effects.

 

DHEA is an adrenal hormone, offers immune-enhancing qualities and helps fight viruses.

 

Echinacea combats the common cold both by reducing the possibility of catching it and the duration.

 

Elderberry is recommended for upper respiratory tract infections and headaches associated with colds.  It promotes sweating and can help to break a fever. 

 

Evening Primrose helps relieve fever and muscle soreness associated with the flu.

 

Garlic is traditionally valued for its antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties.

 

Ginger stimulates perspiration which is great if you have a temperature as sweating helps the body cool and helps flush toxins. It also contains antiviral, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities.

 

Grapefruit is high in vitamin C, which has antioxidant properties that help protect from bacteria and viruses.  It also contains small amounts of B vitamins, zinc, copper and iron, which work together to promote immune system function.

 

L-lysine aids in destroying viruses and preventing cold sores in and around the mouth.

 

Melatonin can trigger T-helper-cell production.  T-helper-cells are necessary for recognizing viruses, bacteria and fungi that have entered the body.

 

NAC amino acid can help expel mucus and is capable of fighting viruses directly.

 

Oregano is high in antioxidants, antifungals and anti-inflammatory agents.

 

Selenium neutralizes free radicals and protects against oxidative stress.
